Slow Horses Renewed for Season 8, Adapting Mick Herron's Clown Town

Apple TV has ordered an eighth season of its darkly comedic spy drama Slow Horses, and this time the Slough House misfits are tackling "Clown Town," the ninth novel in Mick Herron's beloved book series. The renewal arrives as the show continues its victory lap through awards season — and while the current season is still rolling out weekly episodes.

The six-episode season adapts "Clown Town," and the official logline promises the biggest confrontation yet between the show's two titans: "Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner face off in their most explosive confrontation yet. When a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, it is up to Lamb to unravel one of MI5's darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all." Sir Gary Oldman returns as the irascible Jackson Lamb, and Kristin Scott Thomas is back as Diana Taverner, setting up a heavyweight collision between MI5's most dysfunctional asset and its most formidable operator.

A Renewal Machine With Trophies to Prove It

The renewal came days after Slow Horses picked up another Emmy — Saul Metzstein won Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for the Season 5 episode "Scars" — taking the series' tally to three Emmy wins alongside five BAFTA Television Awards. That is a serious hardware collection for a show about MI5's washouts, and it explains why Apple TV keeps saying yes before the current season has even finished airing.

Season 8 is adapted for television and executive produced by Ben Vanstone, with Adam Randall returning as director, and See-Saw Films producing.
